lip sync to Glee - Dont Stop Belevin

Prelim Evaluation - Question 1

In mondays workshop I learnt lots of about behind the scenes of a film set such as how to connect up pieces of equipment like the lights and the camera to the monitor. I learnt how the camera and lighting crew work by constantly tweaking and adapting to get the desired affect (heavily influenced by the director). It was also interesting to see how each of the crew members work as a team in order to function efficently and get the best footage. I discovered that proffessionally, your work alot faster than we have done in previous shoots because with that much equipment and people you need to stick to you scheduale. Similarly, you need to be more descisive whilst making sure you have everything you need. It was interesting to see the cheats and make-shift products in filming such as a wheelchair with a board and tripod taped onto it.

Prelim Evaluation - Question 2

The one of the best bits of the day was perfomring in front of the camera earlier on as there was lots of energy and enthusiam. But it was even better watching the other group perform and seeing how the camera and lighting helped influence the look of shots.

I enjoyed working behind the camera as you saw the different roles and areas working together. Talking to camera, lighting and directing team gave me a real insight into what professional work in the industry would be like.

Prelim Evaluation - Question 3

I am very pleased with our edit as I think we've done quite a good job of matching the technical and visual aspect of the original footage. However, there are a few inconsistencies such as the whole ensemble changing between scenes, but this was the best way to let everyone have a go at performing. Also, there are a few shots which could have been done better - like in the jumping through the door shot - a flash goes off in the middle disrupting the lighting. Unfortunately we couldn't reshoot this as we were tight for time. Occasionally there isnt lip syncing where there should be - like when M.Ward exits the library - which is a slight oversight but not very noticable in the final product. Most of the performances in our edit our really sucessful as people were very smilely and lively - which looks good on tape.

Prelim Evaluation - Question 4

The lip sync tasks have been very useful as they make you aware of what is a good, convincing performance and what should be avoided. For example, if you really sing (when filming) - it does look more realistic than if you just mime. It also teaches you to make sure you have enough shots to make the sequence interesting and enough variety to make ius when editing. This task also makes you aware of how you are going to piece together your video, which is reflected in what you film. For instance, its beneficial to film at one location throughout the song so that you always have the option to cut away to it later.t look like a music video. We could improved our lip sync by having more extremes and a wider shot selection it limited

These were the only shots we had for the second verse -which meant we had to fill out 30 seconds with the same 2 shots. If we had filmed CUs and ECUs we could have made a more complex sequence.

Prelim Evaluation - Question 5

I think our prelim work will make our actual videos more professional as we have practiced and experimented with how to lip sync and perform. It begins to get you thinking about the genre of song you want to do and some intial ideas about how to visually interpret a song. It has also given us more confidence  as people have reduced their fears about performing on camera. Therefore I think this will allow us to make a more daring and unique video as we have less inhibitions to stop us say performing in our video. some performance would give us more variety and make our video seem more professional.
